Walsh Takes Center Stage as Dominant Australia Defeat The Hosts Away in Opening Ashes Test
The home side's attacking frailties were laid bare and capitalized on by a ruthless Australian side as the tourists secured a worryingly straightforward win in the first match of the rugby league Ashes series.

Led by an exceptional display in attack and defence from Brisbane Broncos’ Walsh, the Kangaroos were deserving and convincing winners in the first match of the three-game contest, meaning the hosts must triumph at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium next weekend to sustain their hopes of a first Ashes win since the 1970s.
They will have to be significantly improved with the ball if they are to accomplish that goal. On several instances in the opening period, the hosts found themselves in advantageous situations but they were failed to score for any tries. That was in large measure thanks to Reece Walsh, who pulled off two wonderful turnovers.

The initial occurred as Farnworth seemed destined to put Young in for what would have been the opening try, then Walsh stopped Mikey Lewis as half-time approached. By then, the Kangaroos had gone ahead as Walsh himself completed a wonderful move.
Cleary converted before kicking a two-pointer on the brink of half-time to open up a two-score lead. It was a significant point, as was the score for Crichton soon after the restart which made it 14-0 in favour of the visitors. England now had to score three times and that seemed to stifle their momentum.
If there were any doubt about the winners, they were decisively settled with a quarter-hour to go. Munster's half-break was supported by Crichton, who broke through Jack Welsby for the Kangaroos' third score.
That made it 20-0 and there was further humiliation in the closing stages as Walsh completed another scintillating attack, exploiting a weary and clearly exhausted English defense for his second.
Match Result and Looking Ahead
By then, home fans had begun to leave early and many did not see Clark's consolation, which at least prevented England finishing scoreless. However, there are plenty of questions for the coach to address going into what is now a do-or-die Test next Saturday.
