UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of fascinating future games, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a girl containing multiple personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct souls, all possessing unique anxieties and drives. These souls can seize control at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, though other scenes depict the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that concept β€” fears that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic involves controlling the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have large blooms growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one standing might be a fake. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
