Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
