Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight year.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four titles – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a 13-month break following the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
