Homeland Security personnel have arrived in the Democratic-run city as part of the federal government's expanding crackdown on unauthorized immigration, according to government announcements.

The initiative, called "Charlotte's Web Operation", was disclosed on Saturday, with representatives stating that "undocumented criminals" would be primary subjects in the metropolitan region.

"We are surging Homeland Security personnel to Charlotte to maintain public safety and remove dangerous individuals," a spokesperson commented.

Municipal leaders, including Mayor of Charlotte Li Vyles, issued a joint statement condemning the operation, saying it was causing "unnecessary fear and uncertainty" in the community.

Enforcement Measures

Military-style vehicles and tactical squads could be deployed for the North Charlotte enforcement action, according to official records.

Several church members doing yard work at a local place of worship retreated to wooded areas when agents arrived, with one man being apprehended, according to witness statements.

"We assumed the religious facility was protected and nothing [was] gonna happen," a teenage observer stated to media.

Background Situation

Since the presidential term renewal, government agencies have been dispatched to several locations including key American cities to deliver on the commitment of "the largest deportation programme" in US history.

The DHS said they are implementing the initiative because North Carolina has not honoured the approximately 1,400 Immigration and Customs Enforcement persons held, meaning they had been freed due to "protective measures".

Local Designation

The city is not a sanctuary city - municipalities that have measures in place to restrict cooperation given to federal immigration authorities - but it is a "certified welcoming city". This is a recognized status for municipalities that are focused on diversity acceptance.

"President Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem will act to safeguard the public when sanctuary politicians decline," representatives stated.

Demographic Context

Charlotte is an culturally varied community, with about seventeen percent of population being born outside of the country, according to demographic data.

Federal authorities has not said how long the raids will continue. The Chicago operation, which started last fall is continuing.

Official Response

Earlier in the week, Democratic representative Alma Adams said she was notified about the operation and was "deeply worried" about Border Patrol and ICE agents coming to North Carolina.

The subsequent location on Trump's list is set to be the southern municipality, according to reports, and that as many as two hundred officers could be deployed to the area.

Campaigns in earlier locations like major urban centers have come under fire over allegations of overly aggressive tactics.
