Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
