Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in London.

The Olympic champion concluded her 800m season with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely easier for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said the 23-year-old.

"The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive meet packed the stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting standard medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is married to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to award the winners with their tiaras.

Last year's winners took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The competition also attracted several top athletes, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the sprint double.
