Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
