Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with performances so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
