Alleged Stalker Questioned: 'But What If I Am Madeleine?'
A woman charged with harassing Kate McCann apparently left her a phone message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has consistently claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the tribunal heard phone records and data retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most covered child disappearance cases and continues to be unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
One phone message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I feel what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I am she? What happens next? Isn't that important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a life here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the message continued.
The jury was told that by means of electronic messages, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a early life with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who collated the evidence, advised the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted close associates of the McCanns, according to the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I will continue and I plan to establish my position."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg struck up a connection online with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in the county in last December.
Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to express the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the time leading up to the visit to Rothley, Leicestershire, in December 2024.
The court was told communications between the two accused, in last November, discussing attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from silverware at a eating establishment.
"We need to take action," the co-defendant informed Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their residence, Mrs Spragg transmitted a message which expressed: "We are positioned near the McCanns' house with our headlights off resembling investigators. I wanted to achieve this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
